How to Choose the Right New Years Diet
It's no secret that once January 1 rolls around almost everyone resolves to lose weight and exercise more in hopes of sporting a six-pack at the beach this summer. It's also no secret that most of those people who have high hopes of winter weight loss end up eventually failing by the spring. Sure, some of these diet enthusiasts might lose weight initially, but once their old lifestyle sets in the weight usually comes back.
January is a feeding frenzy for diet companies who are competing for consumers' attention in mass media. Yet with so many different diets to choose from, how do you know what's right for you?
Simple tips for choosing the right New Years resolution diet:
1) Do a personal survey. Do you have a friend or co-worker who lost weight and kept it off? Find out what diet program they used and learn more about how it works.
2) Perform informal research. Research on informational multi-diet websites like www.diet-and-weight-loss-essentials.com to find a realistic impression of major diets on the market.
3) Make a diet shortlist. Choose 5 diets that compliment your way of life.
4) Narrow down your shortlist choices with your LIFESTYLE in mind. When considering a diet, the major concern should be: does this diet fit my lifestyle. So often people get a little overzealous and select a diet program that doesn't fit their lifestyle, thereby, setting themselves up to fail before they start.
5) Think about the present and future. If you pick a diet founded on shakes, veggie soups, herbal pills or the like, ask yourself if you'll be able to continue eating as your diet prescribes in a year, five years or ten years.
6) Choose a sustainable diet. Now that you've performed research, made a shortlist, considered your lifestyle and thought about the short and long term implications of losing weight and keeping it off, it's now time to choose a sustainable diet. A sustainable diet is not based upon a whim-like impulse, but on a calculated decision to change one's eating habits bearing in mind their lifestyle tendencies.
7) Change your thinking. To maintain the long-term benefits of dieting, a diet isn't a short term blip on your life's radar screen; rather a diet is a long term investment. Losing weight is half the battle, keeping it off is the other half.
